Dear Beacon Hill Families,
As we continue to get more information about the 2020-21 school year, we will communicate it to you as quickly as possible. We know it is hard to still have uncertainty, but we will rise to the challenge of remote learning together. Below is the latest school information. Happy Friday! Enjoy the weekend!
| Strong Start Sept 4th – 11th | ||||||||||||
| All classes this year will be on the computer – student learning will not take place at school, everything will be done remotely.Grades 1-12 Friday Sept 4th
Kindergarten Tuesday Sept 8th Strong Start” for Grades PreK-12 On August 26, the School Board approved Sept. 4 as the first day of school for 1-12 students. Sept. 8 is the first day for preschool and kindergarten. They also approved changed bell times.
Sept. 4-11 are considered “Strong Start” days for fall of 2020. Staff will be focused on supporting students’ social and emotional well-being, culturally responsive community building, family connections, and making sure students know how to use their technology tools to access learning.

| Q&A sessions | ||||||||||||
We will be hosting Q&A sessions in English, Spanish, and Chinese to help answer any remaining questions.These will be on August 31st and September 1st – see times for each language in the table below which also includes the links to the virtual sessions.

| 2nd and 3rd grade ELA classes | ||||||||||||
| To better serve students and families during remote learning, the 2nd and 3rd grade Literacy teachers will be partner teaching with one of the math/science teachers. This will allow more flexibility with scheduling and deeper family connections. This means current third graders may have a different ELA teacher than last year. Teachers will be reaching out to you soon if they haven’t already to schedule family check-ins to launch the year. |

| Dual Language Waitlists – correction from last week’s bulletin | ||||||||||||
| There was an error in last week’s bulletin – please see the correct message below:Waitlists – we will not be able to move any students from the waitlists for dual languages classes until after the start of the school year. |

| Supplies and Technology | ||||||||||||
| The school will be providing supplies for students to use at home. Teachers will coordinate with you about a date to either pick-up those supplies for your students or arrange to have them dropped off.SPS has also ordered a device for every student, moving our district to a “one-to-one” device model. K-2 students will receive Ipads and 3-5 will receive a laptop. In addition, the SPS technology team is offering a “bring your own device” program for students who would like to use their personal device for remote learning. As devices arrive, the Department of Technology (DoTS) will work with school leaders to deliver technology supports to staff and families. Training for families, students, and staff will be provided on common platforms and translated “how to” videos will be produced to support students while learning at home. |

| Para servir mejor a los estudiantes y las familias durante el aprendizaje a larga distancia, los maestros de alfabetización de segundo y tercer grado colaborarán con la enseñanza de uno de los maestros de matemáticas / ciencias. Esto permitirá una mayor flexibilidad con la programación y conexiones familiares más profundas. | Utiles escolares y tecnología | ||||||||||||
| La escuela proporcionará útiles escolares para que los estudiantes los usen en casa. Los maestros coordinarán con usted una fecha para recoger esos útiles o bien, para hacer arreglos para que se los dejen en su casa.SPS también ordenó un dispositivo tecnológico para cada estudiante, llevando a nuestro distrito a un modelo de dispositivo “uno a uno”. Los estudiantes de K-2 recibirán IPads y 3-5 recibirán una computadora portátil. Además, el equipo de tecnología de SPS está ofreciendo un programa de “traiga su propio dispositivo” para los estudiantes que deseen utilizar su dispositivo personal para el aprendizaje a larga distancia. A medida que lleguen los dispositivos, el Departamento de Tecnología (DoTS) trabajará con los líderes escolares para brindar apoyo tecnológico al personal y las familias.
