Volunteer
Volunteering is a great way to get involved with the PTA and the BHIS community. The school and PTA offer opportunities year-round to volunteer in the school, classroom, and on field trips.
All volunteers in the classroom, field trips, or in after-school programs must be approved by the district. This process can take up to two weeks, and is valid for two years.

On-Call Helper
Want to be a part of the PTA but can’t commit to larger roles, committees, or to things too far in advance? Being an “On-Call Helper” sounds like the role for you!
When extra help is needed, we’ll send out a short email or text to see who is around to help! Examples might include: “Is anybody free today to swing by Red Apple to pick up the teacher appreciation order?” OR “Ms. Kumaska needs help shelving books in the library, come by anytime during the school day.” These will be little opportunities for involvement that you can help out with if you’re free, or ignore if you’re not.
In order to volunteer at the school you must pass a background check. This typically takes around 2 weeks to process. Once passed, you will be cleared for 2 years. Please start your background check here: https://www.seattleschools.org/departments/volunteer/volunteer-application-process/
